A weather-related phenomenon called a derecho, a wind event more significant than 40 miles wide, traveling in a straight path and capable of destruction like a tornado, impacted the Houston service territory in May 2024. At the height of this event, our local utility company is said to have lost service to more than a million customers in just 40 minutes. Front Line mobilized all available resources and coordinated with mutual assistance crews assembled from across the U.S., working long days in the extreme heat and humidity that typically follows these weather events to restore overhead and underground service for nearly two weeks. Front Line proudly reports that this work was performed safely with zero accidents or incidents.
